Everything you do with kids, somewhere down the line, is going to carry over into the role they play as part of the community. Kids realize if someone thought they were important, and they may decide to carry on in a more positive way.

How we prepare them emotionally and academically, and how we help them be prepared to make choices makes a big difference. Our actions speak louder than our words.

The most important thing we can do is to focus on the children and how we educate them, that is the way that this community is going to improve and grow. It’s going to come from the bottom up, and it’s going to come through education at home and at school. Kids who don’t feel important act it out in one way or another. We need to make sure that every child feels valued, regardless of their race or their background.

Our community needs to work on accepting the people who are here, and exposing children to a lot of different things. I wish there were things we could do in town that didn’t cost anything. I love for my kids to be exposed to different things. I want my kids to be around different people. I want my kids to see art work that I don’t understand... they may understand it.
