The Hale County community is not the community it should be or could be. People do things on an individual basis or with close friends, as compared to doing things with the community. A community that comes together and works together can achieve more than if it is separate as we are.
Besides church there's just really no place to socialize. The church brings individuals together but we are still separated. I would like to see more community space than what we have. I'd like to see people in the community actually get to know each other. One of the most important things is to sit down and talk with someone, to find out their interests, and to share their interests instead of always just being on the outside looking in.
There may be people here that enjoy doing the same things that I do, but because there is nowhere for us to get together and socialize we have no way of knowing. I spend a lot of time away from here when I'm not at work, but if there was something here to do related to things that interest me it would definitely be a benefit. I love to play sports. I enjoy skiing, playing softball and basketball, coaching volleyball and softball, and mountain biking. I would like to see more organized adult league sports, gatherings, and things of that sort here.
People are generally afraid of what they have never experienced, that’s why it’s important to find a community space to socialize. I'd be interested in helping someone get something started up. I would like to get to socialize here, and to be able to be with different people and other opinions.
A lot of the kids, once they attend college, may not come back because of the small town atmosphere. They are looking for change and opportunities for advancement. If the kids come back here they can share ideas and change the community with their views, but it's going to take more than one individual and more than two individuals.
