I think that one person cannot do anything but I know that a number of people can do much. I want the people of Greensboro and Hale County to work together so we can become stronger. We often discuss our situation but fail to take positive action. I think that we should all show more interest and participate in our government and community activities.

The Greensboro City Council meetings and the Hale County Commission meetings are open to the public. Why don’t we attend the meetings to become involved in improving our town and county? We could have open discussions and get people talking. We must respect each other. We can’t get to know each other unless we interact.

Recently there was a called community meeting about improving Lions Park. Only 10 to 15 people attended. There are at least 350 children who play ball at Lions Park. I want us to demonstrate to the council and commissioners that we are interested in our children and are determined to improve our community and county.

Corporations, places like Wal-mart and Target, buy in volume. It encourages people to shop in the cities. Competition with these large companies has put small businesses out of business and eaten up many small communities. Also, not having an economy has drained our town of sales tax dollars that could be used to upgrade the town. The sales tax dollars would provide for the police department and the fire department. The schools also get a percentage of any sales tax dollars. I want people to shop at home in Greensboro.

I think that, together, a number of people can accomplish many things. Let’s be accountable and work together toward improving lives in Greensboro and Hale County.
